Toshio Moritani is a driver in the field of sports science and has been studying the training effect that EMS produces on muscles for over 40 years. Moritani has repeatedly verified that an efficient frequency for training is 20 Hz. His papers are garnering a great deal of attention from researchers around the world.

Generally, muscles act in response to signals from the brain. EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) is a technology that uses electrical signals to directly stimulate and exercise the muscles.

EMS training makes it easy to tone and firm the body.
Muscles are made of extremely fine fibres which can be classified as slow-twitch and fast-twitch muscle fibres. As fast-twitch muscle is easy to build, it characteristically leads to a toned body if you train. On the other hand, with ordinary training it cannot be stimulated without imposing a load heavy enough to put you out of breath, so another aspect is that it requires hard training. Because EMS allows an approach that targets fast-twitch muscle even under a slight load, it can easily produce a change in appearance.

The topic of discussion today, electrical stimulation of skeletal muscles, can be viewed as an element in increasing the independent and healthy life expectancy of the elderly by being used to fight sarcopenia for example, which is the loss of skeletal muscles that can result in elderly people falling down and breaking bones. Verifying the Biological Effects of EMS
Tests were conducted with Associate Professor Kohei Watanabe at the School of International Liberal Studies, Chukyo University, to confirm whether it is possible for physiological muscle fatigue to occur as a result of muscle contraction achieved through SFB training (electrical muscle stimulation).
Evidence of increased muscular activity.
The same actions (bending the knee joint from 180 to 90 degrees) were performed while wearing and not wearing the tights, and the action potential of the hamstrings was compared. The results showed an increase in the EMG amplitude of about 30%* when wearing the tights as well as more neuromuscular activity compared to when not wearing them. This can be interpreted as the hamstrings attempting to exercise more strongly, even when performing the same action.
